Care Guide
Every Vessanori garment is designed for special occasions, and the way you care for it after each wear matters. Before following any general advice below, always check the care label sewn into your specific dress and the care instructions listed on its product page—those are the authoritative guidance for that item's fabric and construction.
After Each Wear
Formal dresses accumulate invisible dust, perfume residue, and body oils that can dull delicate fabrics over time. After wearing, hang your dress on a padded hanger in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight for a few hours before returning it to your closet. This allows moisture from the event to dissipate without forcing a cleaning method that may not suit the fabric.
If you notice a small spot or splash, use a clean, white, lint-free cloth to gently blot the area—do not rub, as friction can push liquid deeper into the weave or disturb surface texture. For any stain that persists after blotting, or for any stain you cannot identify, stop and consult a professional cleaner who works with formalwear.
Caring for Embellishments and Construction Details
Several Vessanori designs feature elements that require extra attention beyond the base fabric:
- Beaded or sequined necklines: Avoid pulling the garment over your head by force. When dressing or undressing, support the beaded area with one hand to reduce stress on individual threads. Store beaded sections flat or loosely draped—never folded sharply, which can crack or detach beads.
- Metallic hardware (rings, clasps): Keep metal accents away from moisture and perfume. If a piece dulls, a dry, soft cloth can restore its shine. Do not use liquid metal polish unless the product page confirms it is safe for that specific finish.
- Feather or tulle trim: These elements are fragile and easily crushed. When storing, ensure nothing presses against them. If feathers shift or flatten, gently separate them with your fingertips—do not use heat or steam to reshape them.
- Ruching and gathered panels: The stretch or gathering that creates the sculpted silhouette can lose its shape if the garment is folded or compressed. Always hang ruched dresses and avoid stacking items on top of them in a closet.
- Pleated skirts and bishop sleeves: Pleats and gathered cuffs hold their form best when the dress hangs undisturbed. Avoid sitting on hard surfaces that press against the pleats, and do not attempt to re-crease them with an iron unless the care label explicitly permits it.
- Interior lining: Some dresses have a full lining that protects the outer fabric and provides opacity. When checking care labels, note whether the lining and shell require different handling.
Storage
Hang formal dresses on padded hangers that support the shoulders without creating creases at the strap points. For dresses with open backs, crisscross straps, or delicate neckline structures, thread the hanger through a loop or use a clip hanger that grips the waistband rather than pulling on thin shoulder straps.
Keep stored garments in a cool, dry space. Avoid plastic garment bags for long-term storage, as trapped moisture can affect certain fabrics; a breathable cotton garment bag offers protection without sealing in humidity. Ensure nothing in the closet snags on zippers, beading, or lace edges.
When to Seek Professional Help
Bring your dress to a professional cleaner experienced with formalwear or evening gowns when:
- The care label directs dry cleaning or specifies a method you are unsure how to perform at home.
- A stain does not lift with gentle blotting.
- Embellishments have loosened, threads are pulling, or a zipper is catching.
- You need the garment pressed or steamed and are uncertain whether the fabric or any coating can tolerate heat.
Communicate the specific fabric and construction details to the cleaner, and mention any embellishments so they can protect those areas during processing.
